I really didn’t know at all - not till I started learning at WELLfed. From learner to tutor - and still learning!

I will never forget the first day. I stumbled upon WELLfed through a good friend who was already a Learner. It was being held at Corinna School hall and I just observed that day.

I was taken aback with the meals the learners were making, but also the smiles, laughter and conversation everyone was having with one another while cooking and sharing kai. It was also the look of achievement on their faces when they were packing their meals they made to take home for their families to eat for dinner that day. I started as a Learner myself not long after but had to stop due to family commitments and I thought it would be the last of WELLfed for me.

But Kim and Rebecca called me throughout my absence to see how I was doing and invited me to their shared lunches at WELLfed. That’s what got me - at the end of our conversations they would always say “when I’m ready to return there’s always a place" for me. And so, I returned. I laugh at myself sometimes when thinking that as a Learner I thought I knew how to cook. But I really didn’t know at all - not till I started learning at WELLfed. I didn’t know what food worked well, how to budget meals, make meals with food already in my fridge and cupboards and make takeaway meals at home instead of buying takeaways.

Until this day, now as a tutor, I’m still learning and I’m still amazed with the things I’m getting taught. But I’m even more grateful to be able to pass it down to other learners and have incredible conversations with people. No matter what background or history we have - when at WELLfed, it’s family. - Tina
