OUR STORY

STARTS WITH KAI

THE MUFFINS

In 2016, WELLfed co-founders Kim and Rebecca were connecting with parents in Porirua when one person shared that she wanted to learn how to bake muffins. Kim brought ingredients and equipment to her home, only to discover an empty kitchen.

Together, they made muffins, and a couple of weeks later, she proudly shared that she had been making them for her children, for church, for her community. That simple act of learning a new skill changed her confidence and her outlook.

Kim and Rebecca realised that food could be more than just nourishment - it could build confidence, strengthen communities, and open doors to new possibilities. That’s when WELLfed was born: fuelled by kai, learning, and connections.

In 2019, WELLfed co-founders, Kim and Becs, shared the story of WELLfed on the TEDxWellington stage.

GROWING WITH OUR COMMUNITY

What began as a single class with eight learners in a local school hall has flourished into a thriving programme. We expanded to a second school before moving in 2019 to our dedicated home in Cannons Creek. Today, WELLfed runs eight cooking classes per week, skill-building workshops, and a large community garden where learners and volunteers grow fresh produce for our programmes.
