Fresh new Teaching Facilities blessed & ready! July 2022

Updated: Oct 6, 2022

The Teaching Kitchen at WELLfed HQ looks a bit different heading into Term 3! Our exciting refurbishment project saw this wonderful space transformed over the break.

We were honoured to have the WELLfed base at Hampshire Street blessed by Ngāti Toa Kaumātua Dr Taku Parai. Special guests at this lovely ceremony included James Te Puni and team from Te Āhuru Mōwai - Homes for Whānau, Porirua City Council staff and Councillors, Porirua Police, and WELLfed board, team members and Learners.

Massive thanks to everyone who was involved in the refurbishment project, especially WELLfed Facilities Manager Tracey Dyer, and our Logistics Manager Emma Mills.

HUGE thanks to the funders who supported this project - The Lottery Grants Board (Lotto NZ) and Hutt Mana Charitable Trust - for their contributions to the capital expenditure. We are grateful for all the support for WELLfed. Our community is excited to be using this improved space for the weekly classes which now run six times a week in term-time.

WELLfed has been operating at the former bowling green at 54 Hampshire Street, Cannons Creek, Porirua East for 3+years and identified that our current kitchen and teaching facilities are in need of upgrade. The Goals for this Teaching Facilities Upgrade project were all achieved:

  • To improve teaching facilities to a higher compliant level of hygiene, health & safety

  • To expand on-site learning opportunities to include barista/hospitality equipment

  • To investigate requirements of a certified commercial kitchen (GAP analysis)

  • To support work underway to improve ventilation & heating requirements

With thanks to our Funders, Partners and Supporters on this project :
